ChristmasChristmas mini sessions.

Christmas mini sessions are short holiday photo sessions on a ready-made set, with a small number of edited photos, built for families and individuals who want a card photo without a long shoot. At Nebulart, the mini session is one holiday set of your choice and 4 edited photos. Here's how it compares to a full session and how to get the most out of every minute.

What is a Christmas mini session?

A mini session is a short, focused photo session with less time, fewer photos and a lower price than a full session. During the holidays, studios build one or two Christmas sets and book clients back to back on them, so each family steps onto a finished set, gets their photos and goes home.

Christmas mini sessions exist for one reason: most people want one great photo for the card and a few for gifts and social media, not a full gallery. If that sounds like you, a mini is the efficient choice.

The trade-off is time. A short slot means less room for warm-up, outfit changes or a toddler who needs a break. Preparation is what turns a short session into a great one.

Mini sessions suit a lot of people: families who want this year's card photo, couples who want one festive portrait together, professionals who want a seasonal profile photo, and grandparents who want a gift that will actually be framed. What they share is a clear goal. You know the photo you want, and you want it done well without spending an afternoon on it.

Mini vs full session at Nebulart

This season our studio on Kingspointe Parkway has two holiday sets: a white set with a frosted window, pale trees and wrapped gifts, and a red set with hanging ornaments, string lights, candy canes and red gifts. The two sessions differ in sets and photos.

Full session: $275

  • Both backgrounds: the white set and the red set.
  • 8 edited photos, 4 on each set.
  • Family sessions or individual portraits.
  • Guided posing, step by step.

Mini session: $150

  • One background of your choice: white or red.
  • 4 edited photos.
  • Family sessions or individual portraits.
  • Guided posing, step by step.

Both sessions are guided by Aquiles Acosta Apitz, our lead photographer with 10 years in photo and video. You never have to figure out a pose on your own.

The red set: playful, loud, unmistakably Christmas.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the mini session if:

  • You need one card photo and a few extras.
  • You have young kids who won't last through a longer session.
  • You already know which mood you want, classic red or winter white.
  • You want individual portraits for a profile photo or a gift.

Choose the full session if:

  • You want variety: one playful red look and one soft white look.
  • You plan a multi-photo card, a calendar or prints for several relatives.
  • You want to change outfits between sets.
  • You're photographing a family and want group shots plus portraits of the kids.

A simple rule: if you can name the 4 photos you want before you arrive, the mini is enough. If you can't, go full.

How to prepare for Christmas mini sessions

In a short slot, every minute spent fixing hair or calming a child is a minute not shooting. These steps put all your time in front of the camera.

  1. Pick your set in advance. White is soft and elegant, red is bold and festive. Decide at home, not in the studio.
  2. Dress for that set. On the red set, cream, white, gold and deep green stand out. On the white set, red, burgundy and jewel tones pop. Avoid red on red, which blends into the wall.
  3. Arrive dressed and ready. Hair done, makeup set, shoes on. One outfit, steamed and wrinkle-free.
  4. Arrive a few minutes early. Use the waiting lobby to fix hair and settle the kids before your slot starts.
  5. Write down your must-have shots. "Whole family, everyone smiling. The kids alone. Mom and Dad together." Tell us at the start.
  6. Feed the kids before you come. A hungry toddler costs you half a mini session.
  7. Bring one prop with meaning. A family ornament or a baby's first stocking adds a story without adding time.
  8. Leave the extra outfits at home. One set means one look. Changing eats your slot.

Bring a lint roller and a small bag of non-staining snacks. They fix the two most common last-minute problems: pet hair on dark clothes and a child who suddenly needs a break.

The white set: soft light, calm poses, a timeless card.

Getting 4 great photos out of a short slot

Four edited photos is plenty if you plan what they are. Here's a combination that covers a card, gifts and social media:

  • The card photo: everyone together, looking at the camera, smiling.
  • The candid: the same group laughing at each other, not the lens.
  • A close-up: the kids alone, or a solo portrait for one person.
  • A detail or a prop moment: a child peeking over a gift, hands on a candy cane, a couple forehead to forehead.

Since every session is guided, we move through these quickly. Tell us your list at the start, so the 4 edited photos cover exactly what you need.

When to book Christmas mini sessions

Book as soon as you know you want holiday photos. Mini sessions are short and slots are limited, and weekends close to card-mailing season tend to go first.

  • Early November: the best window. You get your pick of dates and plenty of time to print cards.
  • Mid-November to early December: still good, with fewer options.
  • After that: possible, but plan your photos for digital cards and New Year's greetings.

Our Christmas dates for 2026 are not published yet. Send us the date you want and we'll tell you what's open.

Is a mini session worth it?

For most families, yes. You get a professional set you didn't have to build, controlled studio light that flatters skin and keeps the twinkle lights visible, and a photographer directing every pose. The alternative is a living room shoot with mixed lamp light, a phone on a timer and at least one person with their eyes closed.

If you want more variety, the full session at $275 gives you both sets and 8 edited photos. For more ideas on outfits, props and poses, see our list of Christmas photoshoot ideas, and if kids are involved, our Christmas family photoshoot ideas.

What is a Christmas mini session?

A short holiday photo session on a ready-made Christmas set, with fewer edited photos than a full session. At Nebulart, it's one set of your choice and 4 edited photos.

How much are Christmas mini sessions at Nebulart?

The mini session is $150 for one set of your choice and 4 edited photos. The full session, with both sets and 8 edited photos, is $275.

Can a whole family do a mini session?

Yes. Both the mini and the full session work for family sessions or individual portraits. Our studio is compact, so tell us how many people are coming when you book.

Can I change outfits during a mini session?

We recommend one outfit. The mini uses one set, and the time is better spent shooting. If you want two looks, the full session gives you two sets.

When should I book a Christmas mini session?

Early November is best, so you have your pick of dates and time to print cards. Send us your date and we'll confirm what's open.

Bring the idea. We bring the light.
